Underwater weighing: Based on physics. Without going into a dissertation on newtonian physics, hydrodensitometry , which is what this is called, is the difference between your weight in and out of the water and is used to calculate your body density. Then your body fat percentage is estimated--note estimated-- based on the principle that fat tissue is less dense than muscle and bone.
