Identify trigger: To appropriately treat a chronic cough requires finding the cause first. The most common reasons are asthma, sinus infections, allergies and ge (acid) reflux. An allergist or pulmonologist is specifically trained to find the cause and develop an individualized treatment plan. Cough suppressants are not the answer and may just delay seeking diagnosis and treatment.
