Dry eye treatment: Your description sounds like dry eye. Initial treatment is frequent artificial tears during the day, ointment at night, warm compresses a few times a day, and omega-3 fatty acid supplements. If no improvement, you should see an eye doctor for further evaluation.

Hard to say for sure: Pain like this needs a good explanation. Could be related to pressure behind your eyes as a result of swelling or of a mass. Best to check with your primary care physician or eye doc.

See your eye doctor: Hard to say what it is based on what you've provided, but your eye doctor can see it under slit lamp microscopy to help you out further. It could be anything ranging from dry eyes, to allergic conjunctivitis, to blepharitis, to another 'itis' (meaning inflammation). The fact that it's sore or painful means it needs to be seen by a professional. Don't delay!

Dry eye syndrome: Adequate tears are necessary to lubricate the top layer of the cornea, the clear dome over the fron of your eye and the conjunctiva, the "skin" over your eye ball. When they are insufficient, small defects can occur in the top layer, exposung nerves underneath- and this causes discomfort, sandy or gritty feeling and pain. Winter and indoor heating is probably making this worse.
