help please! is cranberry juice good for infections?

Specializes in Pediatric Urology
Preventing UTI: Cranberry juice contains proanthocyanidins which interfere with bacteria adhhering to bladder lining. This significantly reduces the risk of bacteria causing a urinary infection because they are eliminated with urination. Acidic affect of cranberry juice may help to to overcome an estrablished uti, but is by no means a cure or substitute for antibiotics in spite of claims by some non-physicians.

Prevention: Cranberry juice can help to prevent urinary tract infections (UTI's) in women with recurrent UTI's because of the proanthyocyanidins (PACs) it contains.
