Symptoms : A person with pneumonia can have any of the following symptoms: fever, weakness, malaise, shortness of breath, cough, maybe with foul sputum, chest pain or tightness. These symptoms need not all be present, nor are they specific to pneumonia, a physician can confirm pneumonia with the help of physical exam, labs tests looking at number of white cells in blood, germs in sputum, chest x-ray etc.
