Multiple causes: Most urinary infections are bacterial. Some are ascending infections through the urethra, especially in women, other are due to seeding of the kidney through blood. Some urinary infections are prompted by obstruction to the flow of urine. The medicine needs to be tailored to the organism causing the infection and it is not a matter for self-care.
