A member asked:

Expert opinion please: could taking ciprofloxacin and cleocin (clindamycin phosphate) affect the effectiveness of my birth control?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not at all: According to mayo clinic, no large scale long range studies have shown antibiotics to diminish effectiveness of bc pill, except rifampin but some doctors believe that some women may experience decrease effectiveness of the pill and recommend, another birth control method while on antibiotics. In my opinion Cipro (ciprofloxacin) and Cleocin will not significantly cause decrease effectiveness of bc pills.Ask your md.
