Get shoes fitted: I think it would be worth your time to get shoes fitted at a real running store. Stores like this are usually run by runners and they are active in learning how to fit shoes to your style of gait. This isn't done at stores like dick's sporting goods. Shoes are recommended based on fit/support not style or colors. You could also see a sports med doc, podiatrist or orthopedic doctor for an exam.

I agree but as an orthopedist who has run several marathons, I would suggest a medical exam. While the shoes certainly will help, you want to make certain that there are are no specific injuries which need to be treated. Hopefully you just have a pronation problem which can be improved with proper running shoes or possilbe orthotics.

You need: To have a biomechanical exam. I would suggest you see a podiatrist that treats runners.
