Surgical Swelling: Swelling typically peaks at 72 hours post-procedure. Intra-op steroid administration is common (which will help decrease amount of swelling post-op). Additionally, taking an NSAID like Ibuprofen - 800mg q 6 hours and persistent application of ice for the first 48 hours. After the second day, you can start to apply moist heat.

Follow instructions: Your specialist Oral Surgeon may place you on anti-inflammatory medication and/or antibiotics, depending on the health the surgical sites. Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) will probably be recommended as is both analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Sometimes Acetaminophen (Tylenol) added to boost analgesic properties of Ibuprofen. Ice packs helpful. Follow Oral Surgeon's instructions to the letter.
