Painful: Rib fracture can be very painful. Very difficult to support the fracture and immobilize it. It will heal with time. How did she fracture? Be sure she has been evaluated for osteoporosis and appropriately treated.

Broken rib: A broken rib usually heals in 3 to 6 weeks . Ibuprofen and all nsaids interfere with bone and any other type of healing and can make the healing process stall or stop completely. Better to take a mild narcotic like Codeine rather than any nsaid.
