Would have concern: When stopping an oral anticoagulant, it has been reported that a person may have a period of time during which they have a higher chance of clot formation (rebound hypercoagulability). If new leg pain with a history of dvt, i would consider medical evalution to include ultrasound of the leg.

May be: Presence of varicose veins, which are superficial veins is not of concern. Deep vein thrombosis occurs in deep veins of the calf, thigh and pelvis. If you have calf tenderness or swelling you should be concerned. It is quite simple to do a doppler ultrasound of the veins in the legs that can give you definitive answer. If you have any doubt you should get tested.
