Inflammation : Any reaction including canker sores can produce inflammatory responses including swelling. Other rare causes can associate with multiple canker sores.

Several Causes: Inflammation and swelling of the tongue combined with canker sores can be caused by many disorders. Major apthous stomatitis is the most common cause, but this can also be seen with other conditions like herpetic stomatitis, behcet's disease, pemphigus vulgaris, oral erosive lichen planus among others. I would see a dermatologist with experience treating oral diseases. They can help you.
