Herniated Disk Pain: Intermittent pain from a herniated disk is common, but not generally due to a healing process. Discogenic pain usually worsens when standing or sitting and improves when lying down. It is commonly activity-related, worsening by motion and relieved by rest. This is probably why your disc pain waxes and wanes.
