If you have an outbreak for hs2 and it's your very first one is it possible that its been you all along or that you got it from your current partner?

Possible: It is possible, you had an hsv-2 infection that was not active and you just got the symptoms. If your new partner has hsv-2 before you had sex, you never had any issues, and now you do, then the likelihood is, the new partner infected you. But the true answer is, one can never be sure if there are multiple partners involved in the history. Hope this helps.
