A member asked:

Does one's first cold sore outbreak mean that the virus was contracted recently?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cold sore: Not necessarily. You could have contracted the virus a long time ago, did not cause an infection but made its way to one of your nerve roots to hibernate. For some reason, it decided to come to the surface and cause the cold sore.
