I have had a a low wbc ranging from 3.4-4.0 due to neutropenia for the last 4 years. i don't sick very often. my only medical history in type 1 dm. what could cause this?

Likely normal : Mild leukopenia may be a normal variant. This sometimes seen in people of african descent . If your. Doctor. Considers it a problem he may order basic lab work up for leukopenia.

It depends: Low white count could be a normal finding that doesn't represent a serious condition in certain ethnic groups like some african americans/others. This is usually a diagnosis based on history, race and after excluding other causes like medications side effect, autoimmune diseases or other possible hematologic conditions. A hematologist can help you differentiate between these entities
