Pain with breathing implies involvement of ribs or diaphragm. Most likely is muscular pain, but if this continues beyond another week or so or worsens you should see a physician. In meantime, try rest and anti-inflammatories.

Dr. Adam Lewis answered

Specializes in Neurosurgery

The pain is coming from where the rib head inserts of the spine. There are a number of causes for this pain ranging from heavy lifting, shingles or a rultured disc. It is important to be evaluated by a spine surgeon who may recommend an MRI of the thoracic spine prior to initiating treatment.
