Random is the key...: If your heart pounds at random moments with no known cause, then you may be having a panic attack. Becoming sweaty, faint, or flushed are also signs of a panic. If you experience these symptoms in particular situations (e.g., crowds), then it may be anxiety due to a specific phobia. Similar symptoms but different treatments. Also get a check-up to be sure you do not have a heart condition.
