Oral meds: If you are infected with herpes the best option is an oral antiviral - zovirax, valtrex, (valacyclovir) famvir. Treatment shou, d be 7 days. If attacks are frequent that long term suppressive therapy is needed.

Don't scratch: There are antiviral medications which can be given for genital herpes, as well as topical preparations which may relieve the pain and itching. These outbreaks seldom last much longer than 7-10 days and should resolve shortly.
