It's a challenge: While there is some evidence that allergies may be delayed or prevented through intervention in infancy, there is not much an adult can do. The risk of developing allergies is in part based on genetics--higher risk if parents are allergic and environmental exposure. One way to avoid specific allergies is to avoid those occupations that carry high risk such as crab processing, sawmill work, etc.
