Differential block?: All modalities of nerve function can be block with an epidural and spinal blocks. With epid, due to few variables, a less dense block can happen. We block motor, sensory and autonomic nerves with above blocks. We can achieve a dense block with both technique. For pain control epid due to differential block may be better but for surgery, spinal with a more dense block might be better.

Epidural : The epidural dose not block the phrenic nerve that comes down deep in the neck and give branches to the heart lungs and the covering tissue if all the organs in the abdomen. If the outside of your uterus was irritated the epidural may not numb that. Some women feel that and some don't from spinal or epidural anesthesia.
