I have many crowns with varying degrees of margin edges. would a prescribed fluoride toothpaste appear to be beneficial between perio cleaning visits?

Absolutely!: That is an excellent idea. Using a prescribed floridated toothpaste along with consistent recall visits will help you keep your dental restorations in tip top shape. There are several on the market so check with your dentist to see which he prefers.

For caries, yes: Fluoride is helpful for minimizing decay on any root surfaces that have become exposed due to periodontal recession. If you have a dry mouth due to medications or illness, it is very beneficial. If you don't have that issue and a low decay rate, the benefits will be less but aside from cost i see no downside to it. It won't be helpful for periodontal issues, however, so good home-care is essential.

Flouride use: If you have gum recession and have several crowns, then flouride treatment would definately help prevent future cavities from forming. Again , good hygiene and well fitted crowns are still key in long term success.

Part of it: Good homecare, flossing, professional dental periodontal maintenance, and fluoride, xylitol, rinses, etc. Are all beneficial.

Home Care: With many crowns i consider you high maintenance. Brush, floss, rinse daily and see your dentist on a regular schedule that they recommend. Follow their advice to a healthy future.
