Nicotine and Graves': Nicotine in any form increases your risk of developing graves orbitopathy, which can cause (in increasing severity), dryness, redness, swollen eyelids, eyelid retraction, double vision, proptosis (bulging eyes), and loss of vision. This result from autoimmune cross reaction between some thyroid cells and cells in the orbit.
