A member asked:

A friend s colon ruptured, wears a bag now , doc. told her was cause she ate a lot of salad. does it mean u can't have that w/diverticulitis?

If you have: Diverticulitis, an actual infection that developed in a diverticulum, you should be on low residue diet. If you have diverticulosis without inflammation, general recommendation is a high residue diet to relax hypertrophic muscles that caused them in the first place. Does that make sense?
