GERD?: This sounds like gastro-esophogeal reflux disease (gerd). For a start, avoid eating big meals (like hotel meals) before bedtime. Also try avoiding spicey food, caffeine and alcohol. This is definitely something that needs to be seen by a doc as there can be some serious damage done if you don't take care of this properly. In the meantime, try otc Tums (calcium carbonate) to see if it helps.

People of Southeast: Indian descent are at risk for heart disease which sometimes can feel like a heartburn. Please make sure that what you have is really heartburn and not heart-related. See your doc and describe symptoms to him/her. Heartburn (burping, acidic taste in mouth, relief w/ mylanta) can be aggravated by caffeine, spicy/oily/acidic foods, eating hurriedly or before bedtime, as well as by stress.
