Popping: The tensor fascia latter muscle and it's tendon the iliotibial band or i t band travels from the hip to the outside of the knee. The i t band crosses the hips greater trochanter. In conditions where there is tendinitis or edema of the i t band or bursitis of the greater trochanter or both, the it band as it crosses the greater trochanter while walking can make a popping sound. See your sports medicine doctor for assistance with stretching exercises.

Get evaluation now: This needs immediate orthopedic evaluation. Major hip pain in a 16 year old can be minor but there can be major issues as well.
