Deep cleening: No- not usually. A pocket is formed when bacteria & food secretes acid which inflames the gums & destroys the bone. A pocket is bad because it can't be cleaned properly & usually leads to larger pocketing, infections & loss of the tooth. The way to eliminate a pocket is to remove the bacteria and sometimes surgically or w/ a laser remove tissue or bone or add bone so it can heal & be cleaned.

No: The goal of periodontal therapy is to reduce the pocket depth. It will not increase the depth. Any bacteria and inflammation in the pocket are what causes disease and increasing pocket depths. Periodontal cleaning will rmove bacteria and the toxins they produce.
