Arthritis vs other ?: Pain in the groin associated with painful or limited range of motion is frequently due to arthritis of the ball and socket of the hip. Pain deep in the back / buttocks may be from the hip, pelvis or low back. True dislocation of the hip is uncommon. Sometimes a popping tendon on the side of the hip can cause similar symptoms (coxa saltans).
