A member asked:

If u have a depressed r ankle/knee jerk and your lumbar spine has been ruled out, can i assume it's coming from higher up?

Must be peripheral: Hyperactive deep tendon reflexes reflect involvement of the upper motor neuron (spinal cord and/or brain). If you have a depressed DTR (deep tendon reflexes) the problem must be peripheral (from the motor neuron to the peripheral nerve). Symmetry also matters so if the patellar reflexes are normal then it is very unlikely to be a problem above the spinal cord. An EMG might be helpful. Good luck.
