Tonsil Stones: They sound like tonsil stones - epithelial debris that collects in deep tonsil crypts. They can be harmless or can cause bad breath or infections in some people. Sometimes thorough cleaning and antibiotics help but tonsillectomy is sometimes the only answer.

Tonsiliths: This is usually due to tonsils that have lots of grooves in them (cryptic tonsils) that have secretions build up and become hardened. They can be associated with bad breath. Using a waterpik or gargling to dislodge them can help. They are not dangerous.
