Hypertension: The BP you reported is still considered elevated, especially since your diastolic (bottom number) would be classified as stage 1 hypertension. You should purchase a home blood pressure cuff and check your BP around the same time every day. Keep a journal of these numbers and take them to your doctor on your next visit. This way, your doc will be able to see the full picture and adjust your meds.

No: Risk of heart disease begins to go up at a BP of 115/75. "normal" blood pressure is less than 120/80. Once you begin taking blood pressure medicine (valsartan) you should take enough of it (or in combination with other meds) to keep your risk low. Why go part way? So, check your BP daily, records numbers, take them to your doctor and tell him/her that you want to improve your numbers!
