A member asked:

My daughter is 18 and she is experiencing blotching on her skin...neck back and shoulder. could this be tenea and if so what can i do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Skin blotchiness: A number of different skin conditions can cause uneven pigmentation or blotchiness. Tinea versicolor (tv) is one of them. Usually the spots are lighter or darker than normal skin tone and have a very fine scaling. Mild tv responds to over the counter dandruff shampoos like selenium sulfide. Please see your dermatologist for more definitive diagnosis.
