A member asked:

I'm in school for medical assistant they told me i need a flu shot, i'm against it and i've had thyroid cancer before, can i be exempted?

Not a good idea: If anything, your thyroid cancer would put you at higher risk of getting the flu and flu complications. The risk of the flu shot is far far less than the risk of getting the flu. You should get the shot.

Probably not: History of thyroid cancer is not a contraindication for a flu shot. And if you're against flu vaccination, then maybe you should consider a different field instead of medicine. Your school has its rules and i can't comment on whether they would exempt you or not. But there is no reason for them to exempt you.

Possibly: Some medical institutions will it allow you to work as a medical assistant without getting your annual immunization. Some may let you work only if you wear a mask. The bigger questions are what evidence underlies your opposition flu immunization and whether being a medical assistant is the right profession for you if you hold to these unscientific views.
