Okay if indicated : Earlier fears or concerns about protons pump inhibitors use for long term have fizzled . However may increase respiratory infections and osteo when taking for prolonnged time.

Not much: The reason warnings are placed on non-rx meds, is because users may not be under a physician's care, so they may not even be choosing the right diagnosis or therapy. Prilosec and related drugs have much greater benefits than risks.

I have had bad heartburn and GERD for about a month now. Was on Prilosec for 2 weeks, stopped. Smoked for 2 days after, felt abdomen pain and esophagus restriction, etc. No longer smoking. And more heartburn. Hiatal hernia maybe? Does it heal itself?

Endoscopy showed grade B reflux esophagitis. Biopsy says: reflux esophagitis, mild, with focal surface erosion. Is the erosion also mild? I started on 20 mg Prilosec. I still have some regurgitation but no longer burning. Is med likely to heal this?
