Bone and kidney: People with chronic kidney disease stage 3 and higher can develop problems with their bones. This is due to a deficit of vit d made by the diseased kidney and causes a low serum calcium (c) level due to its not being absorbed by the intestine. In response to this parathyroid hormone is secreted to raise c by liberating it from bone. Phosphorus (p) is also liberated. This action weakens the bones.
