Rib/Sternal pain: Costochondritis is chest wall pain, usually along the junction where the sternum and ribs meet. It is by definition benign, and often temporary. The cause is often unknown, but it manifests as inflammation of the costal cartilage. Treatment is rest and analgesics, but persistent pain may require more agressive meassures. Other causes of chest pain should be ruled out.
