A member asked:

What is a pelvic exam good for if all they do is feel you down there without doing anything else?

Depends: It is helpful for identifying if (or which) pelvic organs (the uterus, ovaries, bladder) are causing pain, or are tender on exam. Sometimes (in thin patients) it is helpful to identify a cyst on an ovary, or if the uterus is enlarged (in the case of pregnancy or if a woman has fibroids).
