May be nerve pain: Often shooting pains down the legs comes from impingement of a nerve coming out of the lumbar sacral spine. Have your doctor check you out and evaluate you. You may need an MRI of your lower spine to rule out disc herniation or stenosis.

Depends: Pain in the legs can result direct injury to the leg , joint arthritis, peripheral vascular diseases and back conditions.
