No: Stopping a diuretic will not worsen gout. In fact, it may lower the serum uric acid and make future attacks less likely.

It can: If you are taking Furosemide for congestive heart failure, hyperuricemia can be present. This increased uric acid level may lead to gout. Talk to your doctor about this.
