See below: Bilateral - means on both sides kidneys are either smooth in contour or slightly lumpy which occurs when they are formed in-utero. If described as small, you may want to find out if the size is small but within the normal range, or small and outside the normal range for your size. If smaller than expected, it might signal kidney disease. Talk to your doctor about the findings.
