A member asked:

I had to reschedule a circumscission appt and the doctor said the next time he can perform is when my newborn is 6mths. why can't he do it sooner?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Blood flow change: Circumcision in the first days after birth is a simple procedure & can be preformed in the office under a local anesthetic. After a month of age the blood flow around the penis/foreskin will change & regular clamp methods are not effective.A general anesthesia and different technique is employed. Many wait until >1yr. It can be done sooner if a medical need is demonstrated.
