A member asked:

When exercising one identifies a heart rate which is 100%, depending on age. 100% of what? (i refer to the 220-age formula for 100% heart rate.)

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Of predicted: Certain numbers have been determined to be maximal heart based on age. The heart can actually go faster than these numbers but it has been determined that higher rates are detrimental. If you are exercising and you heart rate reaches that predicted number, then you have reached 100%. It is recommended that you keep your heart rate at 80-90% during exercise.
