My father has had a cough due to post nasal drip for months, which he attributes to being older. is this a normal sign of aging? can anything be done

Not related: Not related to aging. Check with an ENT physician, or a pulmonologist. He needs a review of his medications, blood allergy testing, and evaluation for nasal polyps. Other tests might be needed as well. Certain medications can help.

Not normal aging...: A chronic cough due to post-nasal drip is not a normal part of aging and can be treated by a doctor so the cough is controlled. Your father does not need to have a chronic cough since it can be treated by a doctor and perhaps even eliminated. Smoking cessation is important if he currently smokes. He also needs to be certain that there are no other etiologies for this cough. Good luck.
