Many possibilities: But the most common diagnosis in my practice among patients with a complaint like yours is trigger finger. Trigger finger usually responds very well to a local cortisone injection. Other possible diagnoses include different types of arthritis, fracture, dislocation, etc. Your doctor should be able to diagnose the problem and help decide what sort of treatment is needed.
