I got an ultrasound for abdominal pain that came back normal. should i get an mri? my doc says its not needed but i still have the pain.

Need more info: The answer depends on the nature of the pain that you described to the doctor. The ultrasound may have been the best test, but unclear. Also , a ct scan would be preferable to an MRI if a test was indicated.

No: Mri of the abdomen is only indicated to evaluate abnormalities found on other tests. It is typically "organ specific", i.e., MRI kidneys, liver, etc. Unfortunately , abdomen pain can be quite a riddler. Many times we never find the cause.
