It can be safe: Yes if done right it is ok to have teeth extracted during pregnancy. It is always best to have a exam and x-rays before you get pregnant and any dentistry that can't wait until after the baby is born. Also second trimester is also safest. But you never want to leave in an infected tooth. You can only use local anesthetic no sedation. Codeine is relatively safe during pregnancy as is amoxicillin.

Yes very safe: The 2nd trimester is the best time for dental treatment beyond getting your teeth cleaned. However, if the mother is in pain and an infection is evident it is best for both the mother and the baby to have the treatment done.
