Repair: A hernia such as yours results from a defect in the abdominal wall. Because of this defect or tear, "things" inside your abdomen (like intestines) will protrude through the defect. The risk is that, sooner or later, an organ , such as your intestine, will get stuck in this hernia.... Your situation has now become a surgical emergency. Inguinal hernias should be fixed. Yours, soon.

Early repair usually: When you have started to have symptoms, there is increasing risk of organs from inside the abdomen entering and becoming stuck in the hernia sac (incarcerated). This could lead to further trouble and might even require emergent surgery. It is not possible to predict exactly when this will happen. Elective, early repair is simpler and has less risk than emergency repair, and is the advised choice.
