A member asked:

What do we mean by sensitive vs specific test

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's like this:: You ask someone: "are you alive?" this is a highly specific test for being alive: false positives are rare because very few people say "yes i am" if they are in fact dead. It is not very sensitive, as many people (especially those who do not speak english) will not answer "yes" to this question even if they are alive. Presence of a head is highly sensitive for being alive, but not specific.
