what is the horrible throbbing pain in the lower left side of my back below my ribcage?

Fracture/inflammatio: Could be several things- pneumonia, pe, pleural effusion, rib fracture, if on rightside liver. Please check with your doctor. Throbbing usually means inflammation/infection/ abscess.

Kidney: Broad differential, but don't forget renal etiologies such as infections or stones.
