Depends: In some people it can. If the woman has a condition and does not produce much estrogen then spotting would be a period. People on continuous cycling of oral contraceptive who go off can have light to spotting for a period. The use of Progesterone can inhibit the growth of the uterine lining so all you might get is spotting. I'm probably leaving others out, out of room too!

No, close isn't enuf: Do a test - or see your provider. You either missed your period or had an irregular one that may merit attention. You are young to be starting menopause, but if it happens slowly, you could be beginning - some take a decade to completely stop. During that time, management of fertility can be tricky - so see your doctor for an exam and ideas. Best!
